What led you to a career in the deal-making industry?
I knew mid-way through law school that I did not want to litigate. I wanted a practice that was less adversarial and more collaborative and dynamic. And that's what keeps me enthusiastic about dealmaking to this day.
How does diversity add value in the deal-making process?
Nuance is important when we negotiate and solve problems. And a diverse team is more likely to draw a fuller picture. Everyone may hear the same discussion and see the same facts. But a diverse team will pick up different cues that lead us to a better, faster solution.
The most memorable deal I worked on....
In 2008, I spent six weeks in a room negotiating one deal with Clearwire, Google, Sprint, Comcast, and Intel. The complexity of the deal is memorable, but there are so many fond and funny memories of the deal teams.
Advice for achieving success in the industry....
Focus on the building and caretaking of your team. A team is critical to deal-making, as well as making the whole process more fun and rewarding.
