What led you to a career in the deal-making industry?
I enjoy problem solving, so being able to bring together the necessary pieces to solve a company’s complex capital structure issue appeals to me. With prior experience as a lender and private equity investor, investment banking gave me an opportunity to blend those worlds and act as an intermediary.
Tell us about your experience and what was different during the Covid-19?
The biggest challenges were gaining clients’ trust without having the opportunity to meet face to face; and getting a buyer or lender through due diligence without site visits or in-person meetings with the management team. We began leveraging technology that we had never used in this type of capacity before.
Recent most memorable deal I worked on....
The Section 363 process for Rubie’s Costume Company, the largest costume manufacturer in the world. They needed a timely capital solution to prevent a costume shortage for the 2020 Halloween season.
Matthew is responsible for creating valuation models, performing financial analyses in support of capital structure strategy, conducting market and buyer research, and preparing transaction memoranda and progress reports. He works closely with SSG senior bankers advising clients on mergers and acquisitions, private placements, financial restructurings and valuation engagements.
