What led you to a career in the deal-making industry?
Quite by accident. I was looking for a job for a friend at my previous firm and stumbled upon a posting to work in a Latin American Restructuring Group. As it was a perfect fit (I speak Spanish fluently and love to travel), I applied and am still here 14 years later.
Tell us about your experience and what was different during the Covid-19?
I usually travel about 80% of the time for work to Latin America (i.e. in one year I managed to travel over 400,000 miles). It’s been different being in the same city a long stretch of time (much to my partner’s dismay!). I miss travelling and having in person interactions.
Recent most memorable deal I worked on....
That would have to be restructuring Barbados. I was an advisor to the domestic financial industry in the USD$8 billion sovereign debt restructuring of the Government of Barbados.

Devi advises on debt restructurings in Latin America. Her expertise includes performing due diligence; assisting financially troubled companies; reviewing business plans; undertaking receiverships; preparing companies for U.S. Chapter 11 filings; advising and assisting in various creditor requests and financial modeling, including capital structure models, integrated operational models, integrated cash flows, and other financial models used to assist stakeholders in understanding; and negotiating complex transactions. With more than 15 years of experience, she has been involved in numerous Latin American restructurings with debt totaling over USD$75 billion.

Education: B.Comm with honors from Queen’s University.
