What led you to a career in the deal-making industry?
I was attracted to the leveraged loan space given the ability to review various industries while gaining expertise on a specific product. I love the fast pace and collaborative team-nature of the work I do.
How does diversity add value in the deal-making process?
Each transaction has individual risks and opportunities that can better be evaluated and highlighted by professionals with different perspectives and backgrounds (gender, ethnicities, education, lifestyles).
The most memorable deal I worked on....
A deal that went through restructuring. I learned more about the company, lender group dynamic and credit documentation when faced with a potential loss.
Advice for achieving success in the industry....
Learn the importance of the appropriate balance between generating income and taking on risk. Also, aim to work on as many deals in different industries and environments as possible to develop a strong knowledge base.
Profile:

Carol joined Churchill Asset Management in 2015 and currently serves as a Principal in the underwriting and portfolio management group with over 15 years of experience in middle market leveraged finance. Previously, she was a Vice President and Portfolio Manager at BDCA, a business development corporation that is focused on making direct senior, middle market loans. Prior to BDCA, Carol was a Senior Associate at Churchill Financial where she worked in the Underwriting and Portfolio Management group. Before then, she worked at CapitalSource, focused on underwriting leveraged loans for lower and traditional middle market companies. She also held Associate and Analyst positions at Bank of Ireland (Leveraged Acquisition Finance group) and Lehman Brothers (Mergers & Acquisitions group).

Education: B.S., in business administration from Georgetown University.
