Allen leads thoughtfully from the front, helping his clients confidently navigate the restructuring process, both in and out of court. Allen launched his career with McKinsey and held leadership and management roles with Deloitte and CRG Partners.


Boris J. Steffen

A financial advisor and expert witness to holders of interests and claims in restructurings involving complex accounting, finance, valuation and solvency issues, Boris has advised in over $100 billion of mergers, acquisitions, and restructurings. His practice has included Special Litigation Committee service, acting as the independent accounting expert in post-closing working capital disputes, evaluating asset acquisitions and testifying as an expert with respect to the interpretation of accounting principles, allocation of costs, specificity of merger synergies, actual and constructive fraudulent transfers, and fair value, including before the Delaware Court of Chancery.

What factor has most led to your success in the restructuring industry... The factor which has most led to my success in the restructuring industry is my ability to originate and implement ideas and strategies that contribute to the success of my clients.

What do you most enjoy about your career... I enjoy having the opportunity to work with world-class colleagues on complex, multi-dimensional, far-reaching issues which have the potential to significantly and positively influence the lives of others.


Jack Surdoval

Jack specializes in financial restructuring advisory and crisis management services in the troubled company environment and provides value-added representation to all parties-in-interest. His expertise includes: financial and operational restructuring strategies; business plans and related financial projections; asset valuations; structuring and raising of debtor-in-possession (DIP) and other financing; supporting companies through Chapter 11 proceedings. Before joining BRG, Jack was an executive director at Capstone Advisory Group and was a managing director with the Policano & Manzo legacy practice of FTI Consulting.

Jack won the prestigious Turnaround Atlas Award earlier this year for representing Chapter 11 restructuring of Brazos Electric Power Cooperative, Inc.


Allen D. Wilen

Allen leads a team of over 100 professionals dedicated to assisting the firm’s clients through the litigation and restructuring process. Allen provides forensic accounting, valuation and litigation support services specializing in the areas of distress, debt restructuring, and business disputes. In addition, he provides analysis of insolvent and troubled companies, provides advice in turnaround and crisis situations, counsels purchasers in the acquisition of assets within the bankruptcy arena, and provides expert advice to parties in civil matters. He has represented numerous distressed businesses in navigating their path through the complexity and confusion of the turnaround, sale and liquidation processes.

What factor has most led to your success in the restructuring industry... Luck... I never would have joined the industry if I hadn't received a call after I accepted an accounting offer from Arthur Andersen to join the Restructuring Practice From my first matter working on the reorganization of Greyhound Dial Corporation to 30 more years of case experience, I have met so many great clients and professionals. The other factor has been flexibility. Nothing goes the way you draw it up on paper, you need to bend and find new solutions.

What do you most enjoy about your career... The professionals I have met along the way. My closest friends are people I have worked with over the years. I also enjoy the people I have nurtured grow up to be successful in the industry. I had some incredible mentors over the years, like John Dubel, Bill Henrich, Bernie Katz amongst many others. We each owe it back to the industry to develop tomorrow’s leaders.


Ian Wormleighton

Ian has worked in the sector for 20 years and acts for corporates, lenders and other stakeholders in both advisory and insolvency capacity. He is particularly well regarded in the market for complex contingency planning and cross-border insolvency situations.

He joined Teneo as part of its purchase of Deloitte’s UK Restructuring business. Prior to the acquisition, Ian led Deloitte’s “Big Ticket” practice which provides restructuring and insolvency advice in relation to large, complex and typically cross border situations.
