What factor has most led to your success in the restructuring industry… A combination of paranoia, persistence, creative problem-solving and an unusually broad business background. This allows me to quickly identify and more importantly, effectively communicate, the key issues, the mechanics to get to the endgame and then get to work. Having previously led my own shop for many years forced me to become a successful rainmaker. At a certain point, technical skills are a commodity and what matters the most is being a mensch.

What do you most enjoy about your career… First, every troubled situation is different, and restructuring is never boring. At the end of the day, this is a people business. People made the decisions that we find ourselves fixing and many people are affected by the outcomes. I fundamentally enjoy helping people solve, negotiate and resolve complex business and financial problems. After so many years, I have many friends in this business and it’s fun to work with so many characters.
