What led you to a career in the deal-making industry?
I was drawn to the financial restructuring industry because of the complexity. There are financial, legal, and operational elements each deal introduces that continually challenge you as a professional and forces you to develop new and creative solutions that are tailor made to a specific deal.
Memorable deal I worked on... why?
EYP Inc. was the most memorable/complex situation I have worked on as there were 150 unsecured creditors we brokered a restructure with, eventually coming to a value maximizing resolution.
Most enjoy about my career...
I most enjoy my colleagues at CMA. There is no replacement to having a great team to collaborate with, especially given the complexity of the deals we work on.
Profile:
Benjiman with over ten years of financial services experience, works with clients across the capital structure on mergers and acquisitions, financial restructurings, and debt and equity capital raises that are in financial distress. Prior to rejoining Carl Marks Advisors, he worked as a private equity investor in the special situations underwriting group at Summit Investment Management.
Education: MBA from The SC Johnson School of Management, Cornell University, and BA from University of Western Ontario.
