Biography:
Clare led the Financial Sponsors Group for 16 years prior to her Vice Chair role. Prior to starting MidCap Financial, Ms. Bailhé founded and ran the leveraged lending platform for Merrill Lynch Capital Healthcare Finance. Earlier, she was an MD at BanqueParibas with prior roles at NatWest and Barclays. She holds a BA in economics from UCLA. Clare is Co-Chair of the Leveraged Finance Fights Melanoma event for the Melanoma Research Alliance.
What led you to a career in the deal-making industry?
As an Econ major, a career in banking was a natural step for me. Nat West was a terrific place to start. I immediately knew that finance was a great fit: working with numbers, dealmaking and engaging with all sorts of interesting people.
Most memorable deal I worked on...
While at Paribas, I was Co-Lead alongside Bankers Trust, for the 1996 merger of IMED Corp and IVAC, working with DLJ Merchant Banking Partners. The company was renamed Alaris Medical Systems. This fantastic medical device continues to save lives daily.
My number one advice for achieving success in the industry...
Work hard but be a good person doing so. You can succeed and still maintain your sensibilities. Value your family and work friends. Everyone is trying to do their best.
What you most enjoy about your career...
I enjoy working with my talented colleagues, investors, and work friends, as well as traveling to many exciting destinations around the world, and discovering diverse, fascinating businesses through my career.
