Jennifer Muller
Managing Director, Co-Head Special Committee & Fairness Opinion
Houlihan Lokey
What led you to a career in the deal-making industry?
Math was my favorite subject as a student and so finance seemed like a logical path. What kept me in the profession though, was the variety. We learn about new businesses, see different management styles and always have new and interesting challenges. I guess that’s why I’ve been in this business for over 25 years.
How does diversity add value in the deal-making process?
Many of us know that diversity enables different viewpoints, which can create a better outcome. But it can also create a social dynamic that causes everyone to be more self-aware. This awareness creates a focus on one’s individual performance and makes everyone become stronger contributors.
The most memorable deal I worked on....
Generally, the deals that are most memorable for me are when the client is financially distressed. It creates a different level of stress, pushes people, heightens emotions and can have a direct and tangible impact on people’s lives.
Advice for achieving success in the industry....
Stay connected to your network, enjoy business development and stay in tune with what is important to your clients.
